An Xps And Exafs Study Of The Interaction Between Cerium Ions And Glass Surfaces

Interaction between cerium ions and the glass surface has been examined by XPS and EXAFS. The study demonstrated an affinity between the glass surface and the cerium ions present in solution and a temperature dependent bonding interaction was observed with a cerium (III) species bonding via oxygen atoms. A similar surface species was observed on conventially polished glass samples.
