Who'S Paying The Price? Uk Taxing Policy Comes Under Fire From The Packaging Industry

The UK packaging industry claims to invest in new technologies regularly and is disgruntled at the influx of new punishing taxes like the Climate Change Levy (CCL). Tax harmonisation across the EU meant that in 1997 the EU average was 6.7% of total tax revenue/country. The UK figure, pre-CCL, was 8.1%. Tax depreciation on capital expenditure no longer applies. RPC and the Packaging Federation believe that harmonisation of the CCL would benefit the UK's energy intensive manufacturers.
