Volume Contributions Of The Component Parts Of Silicate Glasses

By regarding silicate glasses as relaxed silica glass, it is shown that a Si-O pair or a monovalent or divalent cation has a fixed volume contribution in different silicate glasses. An equation is derived for calculating the volumes per oxygen of silicate glasses, from which the molar volumes and densities can be easily calculated.
