Vitrification Of Fly Ash And Other Ultimate Waste: Electric Arc Furnace Serving Sustainable Development (In French)

The vitrification of ultimate waste generates four major types of products which are: vitrified product (or mineral phase); metallic phase; metallic oxides in vapour form; and, salts. The purpose of vitrification is to recycle a maximum of initial waste and the possibilities of effective reprocessing depend on the quality of the products obtained. Melting is an essential step to obtain a top quality product. For their vitrification process, EDF and Stein Heurtey have fixed their choice on the electric arc melting technology which, when combined with selective post treatments, makes it possible to obtain results that are compatible with reprocessing requirements for most ultimate waste and especially for the fly ash from municipal solid waste incinerators.
