Viscosity Measurement Of Quartz Glass

A method is described with which the viscosity of quartz glass at temperatures up to 2100 deg C can be determined in the range of log n (dPa s) from 5.5 to 12. Originally it consisted of a torsion method developed by Weiss (Osram). However, using the same equipment the torsion method has been complemented by a fibre elongation method. It is shown that the results from the torsion measurement and the fibre elongation measurement fit extremely well.
