Despite the glass industry being characterised by a great inertia, the changes affecting the whole glassmaking sector are set to continue. One example of a current change is the shift of glass production from the EU, the USA, Japan and other developed countries to areas with emerging economies. In the first instalment of a two-part feature, Vladimir Hotar from the Technical University Librec (Department of Glass Machines/Robotics), Czech Republic, looks at the recent changes in the glass industry, future market prospects, and how the environment is challenging manufacturers.
