Transparent Electronic Interlayers: Flexibility In Lamination

Ready to laminate transparent electro conductive films containing small electronic Surface Mounted Devices (SMD) have been in use for about five years. In combination with LEDs, the substrate transparency and its flexibility allow a wide range of lighting applications such as flat LED glass floor tiles, LED stair glasses, but also curved glasses such as automotive LED roofs. By connecting transparent conductive interlayers to capacitive electronics - intelligent glasses will detect, touch-free, any human movement nearby. SMD LEDs, heating films and sensor interlayers are introduced and explained with respect to electrical power resulting currents, heating effects, achievable luminosities, lifetimes, sensor levels and typical lamination parameters in use with PVB, TPU, EVA or EVASAFE. Destructive lamination parameters are summarised & explained.
