Towards Strong Ga:La:S Otpical Fibres

Ga:La:S (GLS) glasses have been identified as potential candidates materials for infrared applications, in particular, infrared transmitting optical fibres. An evaluation has been conducted of all fabrication parameters such as glass precursor purity,g lass melting, preform fabrication and fibre drawing with the aim to formulate a viable production route for high strength fibres.
