Claims a thorium-free optical glass of composition (wt%) B2O3 20-40, La2O3 44-60, Ta2O5 0-31, ZrO2, if included instead of Ta2O5, at least 4. Specific claims are for 33 B2O3, 10 ZrO2, 49-52 La2O3, 8-5 Ta2O5 and in the same order 30, 5, 48-53, 17-12. RI range is 1.74-1.88.
