Surface Hydration Of Glasses And Compositional Changes

The hydration process of four different types of glasses with some relevance in technical applications has been studied by the 15N technique and other NRA techniques. The observed surface hydration relates strongly to the type of glass. An incorporation of water is found, as well as an exchange of hydrogen ions against alkali ions from the glass.
