Structural Design Of Blast Enhanced Cable Net Facades

The dynamic behaviour of facades under shock waves with short time durations but high impulse loads requires specialised design methods and structural components. In the numerical analysis the aero-elastic damping of flexible facades can be considered. The connections between the facade elements itself as well as the connections to the primary building structure can be designed to dissipate higher shares of energy by plastic deformation. Additional project unique fuse connections were developed for the World Trade Centre Tower 3 in NY to limit the connection forces to the primary structure. The structural system changes from a system for "classical" loads to a structural system for "blast loads". This system change is triggered by overload fuses.
