Start-Up Hood In Float Glass Apparatus And Method Of Using Same

The apparatus prevents excessive cooling of the initial glass ribbon emerging from the exit end of a float glass bath during its start-up, and is then easily disconnected. The passage of the ribbon across the lift-out area and into the adjacent annealing lehr is facilitated. The portable hood is mounted above and extends across the width of the exit opening. It has a row of spaced burners extending though a baffle plate and firing down to the emerging ribbon.
