Raw materials used in container glass manufacture are normally contaminated with iron oxide, commonly contributing to a green tint of the glass product. This discolouration can physically be compensated by a colouring agent which suppresses the green transmission. Such an agent can be either manganese or selenium. This paper concludes that the use of selenium can be substantially reduced in a normal glass melting furnace.
