Scandium, Yttrium And Indium In Oxide Glasses

Since scandium, yttrium, and indium oxides are sparsely used in glasses, little information exists regarding their effect on glass formation. An estimate of their glass forming regions in a number of systems will be made by combining information from reports of sample identity in property and spectral studies. The limited data for the effect of these oxides on the properties of oxides glasses are presented, along with some complementary data for glasses containing lanthanum oxide. The most promising applications of these oxides lie in the area of yttrium silicon-alumiium-oxynitride glasses and glass-ceramics and in the application of glasses containing yttrium oxide in the treatment of certain forms of cancer.
