Role Of Fluoride Cations In The Crystallization Of Beryllium Glass.

Glasses of composition 3BeO.Al2O3.6SiO2.0.7mF2 (1.4MF) (M=Mg,Ca,Sr, Ba, Li, Na) were synthesised. Glasses with MgF2 and LiF has a liquation structure. The most effective crystallisation centres were NaF nad MgF2. MgF2 aided in developing beryl-type crystal strucutres. The field strength of the cation's increases the capacity of Be to be incorporated in the structure of glass.
