The recent publication of the Glass Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency Roadmap to 2050 is one of the most convincing steps yet to achieving true sustainability throughout the glass industry. The report is a collaborative study by leading figures in government, glass manufacturing, the supply chain and British Glass, outlines how UK manufacturing can best reduce its environmental impact without losing economic edge against the rest of the world. We already know that the circular economy in which many glass manufacturers operate is proving successful. Glass is infinitely recyclable, which makes it one of the most environmentally responsible packaging materials for manufacturers to produce and consumers to use. As identified in the report, the next step for glass is to build on responsible methods while implementing even better processes to tackle the challenge of decarbonisation.
