Regenerator Temperature Modeling For Proper Refractory Selection

The current practice in the glass industry is to operate furnaces hotter, longer, and with higher pull rates. Glassmakers can no longer solely base their refractory selection and decisions on established and historical practices and guarantee previous refractory life. In this paper, RHI presents modeling techniques that couple a regenerator efficiency program with standard modeling software. This method allows for tailor made refractory solutions; whether to pinpoint condensate zone locations or to establish proper material locations for temperature resistance enabling the ability to maximize performance, service life, and economy.
