Refractories For Superstructures In Oxy-Fuel Fired Glass Furnaces: Are All Still Products Equivalent?

This paper describes the development of an oxy-fuel atmosphere simulation test for comparing the corrosion resistance of silica crown bricks in the laboratory. The results of the test show that not all silica bricks are equivalent and that microstructural texture is more important than a low flux factor. The test has enabled the production of a new type of silica refractory that has high corrosion resistance to hot alkali vapors.
