Reduction Of Alkali Volatilization And Refractory Corrosion For Oxy-Fuel Fired Furnaces

This paper looks at the commercialization of a newly developed oxy-fuel burner for application in glass melting. Eight Praxair proprietary WideFlame burners have been installed and are operating in a large soda-lime glass furnace since June 1998. Measurement of alkali volatile concentrations show the WideFlame burner significantly reduces alkali volatilization in the glass furnace.
