Redox Interactions Between Cu And Ce, Sn, As, Sb In A Soda-Lime-Silica Glass

The effect of adding a small concentration of Sb, As, Sn and Ce on the cuprous-cupric equilibrium was studied in a glass of molar composition of 70.4Si02, 12Ca0, 17.5Na20 in air at 1450 deg C. It was found that the ions of these elements had no effect on the position of the cupric absorption band. The redox data showed that cerium is an oxidising agent and antimony, aresenic and tin are all reducing agents towards copper.
