A Quasi-Stationary Model For Bubble Behaviour In Glass Melts With Refining Reactions

A quasi-stationary approximation has been extended to model the behaviour of a gas bubble in glass melts with an equilibrium redox reaction of refining agents. Although this model has been widely and successfully used in treating dissolution and growth of gas bubbles in glass melts, it has not so far been applied to the equilibirium redox reactions of refining agents. The predicted dissolution rates of a stationary gas bubble by the proposed approximate model have been compared with the results obtained from the finite difference solution of the complete mass transport equations. Reasonable agreement was found.
