The Pilkington 3R Process For Controlling Nox Emissions: A Refractory Perspective

This article describes the Pilkington 3R process, which is capable of reducing NOx emissions by over 80%, giving actual emissions equating to about 2lb of NOx per tone of glass melted while adding less than 1% to unit production costs. As well as being simple to incorporate into new plant design, a significant advantage of 3R is the ability to retrofit the process to existing regenerative glass furnaces.
