Modelling Combustion Chambers Of Glass Melting Furnaces: A Validation Study

A simulation model of gas-fired glass melting furnaces, WISH3D/TTM, has been developed. This model is a complete model for glass melting furnaces, describing the combustion space and glass bath, and predicting the effects on melting performance and glass quality. By aid of sub-models, including batch melting, electrical boosting, forced bubbling, oxyboosting and air or oxy-firing, the effects of changes in process conditions on glass quality can be studied. The complete model for both combustion chamber and glass tanks is used by the glass industry and furnace manufacturers for product quality improvement and for optimization of new furnace design. In this paper the combustion chamber model TNO-WISH3D will be validated by comparing the simulations to detailed experimental measurements.
