Manufacture Of Float Glass Having Controlled Width

The width of the ribbon after attenuation and cooling is determined and compared with a predetermined target width. An error signal is generated corresponding to the difference and this is in turn compared with the width of the molten ribbon at a point upstream to give a second error signal. This second signal is used to control the target postiion of a tweel controlling the flow of glass to give a ribbon of the desored width.
