Ion Exchange And Redox Reactions In The Float Bath

During the last 30 years, the float glass process has become the standard of the flat glass industry for manufacturing high quality flat glass. In the float process, a continuous ribbon of glass is formed on a bath of molten tin. Whereas the engineering aspects of float glass forming process have undergone revolutionary changes, float glass composition stayed close to the soda-lime-silica composition of plate or sheet glass. Nevertheless, the chemical aspects of the float glass forming process are profoundly different from the open air roll- or draw forming process of plate or sheet glass.
