Influence Of Processing Parameters On The Strength Of Fluoride Glass Fibers

The different factors affecting the tensile strength of heavy-metal fluoride glasses are discussed. Surface crystals were found to be responsible for lower fibre strength, which can be increased by controlling the preform surface and drawing in a dry atmosphere.
