A glass of molar composition 65SiO2-17.5Al203-17.5ZnO, to which 4.7 wt% TiO2 was added as a nucleating agent, was heated to form glass ceramic materials with different crystalline phase constitutions and varied mean crystal sizes. An empirical correlation between the microstructure of the resulting glass ceramics and the mean intercrystal spacing was derived.
