Industry'S Eu Lobbying Needs An Overhaul

The time has come for a major rethink on how the glass manufacturing industry is represented at the EU in Brussels, believes BGMC Director General, David Workman. "Our industry has a turnover in the EU of 30 billion Euros, and we directly employ 200,000 people," he said. "An industry of that size properly represented will be listened to in the corridors of power in Brussels, Yet our umbrella body, CPIV, the standing committee for the glass industry employs just two people." The EU Domestic Glass Committee, European Special Glass Group, and the EU glass fibre group, APFE are under CPIV's wing and contributing to its finances. But FEVE, the container glass body, and GEVP, which represents flat glass manufacturers contribute nothing to CPIV, even though it deals with all issues affecting the entire glass industry.
