Hot corrosion behavior of Al2O3–Cr2O3 refractory by molten glass at 1200 °C under static condition was monitored. Glass-refractory interface was investigated by XRD, SEM and EDX analysis. After 36 h of testing, no visible change was observed, but SEM analysis revealed a corroded region of 315 μm. Corrosion occurs via dissolution of Al2O3 followed by mass exchange and formation of Fe2O3–Cr2O3 solid solution, which acts as a barrier to the molten glass. However, the Cr2O3 fractions of the refractory remained uncorroded.
