High Emissivity Coatings In Glass Furnaces

High emissivity coatings have been used in glass melters for over five years. To-date, furnaces of over two dozen glass makers have used these coatings. In most cases, they have resulted in significant fuel savings, more even heating, more rapid furnace commissioning, and a lower carbon footprint. In a few cases, the performance of these coatings has not been satisfactory under certain furnace and operating conditions. An Owens Corning study of insulation furnaces using high emissivity coatings has shown consistent performance between furnaces and fuel saving benefits in excess of five years.
