Glass-Ceramic Joining Media

In order to fabricate composite structures of ceramic-to-ceramic, or ceramic-to-metal, suitable joining media are required. For the joints to be capable of withstanding elevated temperatures, together with thermal cycling and, at the same time, maintaining hermeticity in the joint, metallic or vitreous joining media are employed. The advantages of vitreous joining media over metallic ones are discussed, particularly with reference to their ability to withstand high temperatures and corrosive environments.
