The behaviour of gas bubbles in glass melts under microgravity was furthered with a helium bubble experiment carried out on board Space Shuttle Discovery in January 1992. The shrinking of an isolated helium bubble was observed in a soda-lime-silica melt in order to determine the diffusion coefficient from the resulting radius-time curve. A new mathematical model was used to obtain the diffusion coefficient for temperatures up to 1186 deg C.
