The aim of fracture analysis is to determine the breakage cause of glass objects by means of accurate observation of the fracture surface. The breakage originates from: A "weak point" in the glass acting as the starting point of the fracture: A tensile stress causing the fracture propagation. To determine the point where the fracture exactly began, analysis of the characteristic signs present on the lecture surface represents the main tool used. These are called "Wallner's Lines." They represent the point where the fracture front and elastic wave meet. The wave is propagated or reflected by a surface perturbation or by anything staying in the way of the fracture propagation.
