Flat Glass Under Inspection

An inspection system for the complete quality control of float glass was presented at Glasstec 2012. It consisted of five optical channels and has been successfully implemented into systems since the beginning of 2012. It allows the detection, typifying and classification of virtually all defect types and sizes encountered in the manufacturing process of float glass. The determination of the optical basic refraction of glass in transmission is an optional part of the system. In addition to band speeds of up to 30m/min and the scalability of deviating glass ribbon widths, the system can scan various glass thicknesses from 1-25mm at transmission rates of up to 30%. The inspection system also detects the edges of the glass ribbon and is able to track the top roller marks. Respective information can be transmitted via interfaces to other systems, for the determination of gross and net tonnage. The system also offers different communication options with cutting controllers.
