A simple, rapid and direct estimation of sulphide sulphur in amber glass has been developed. After decomposition of the glass by hydrofluoric acid and hydrochloric acid in a polythene vessel, the liberated hydrogen sulphide was swept out by a stream of nitrogen and absorbed in 0.2N potassium hydroxide solution. The absorbed sulphide was then estimated by titration with hydroxymercuribenzoic acid using dithizone as the indicator.
