The preparation and spectroscopic properties of Cu2+ in the xB203-(100-x) TeO2 nonlinear optical glassy system are described. Infrared shows that triborate and tetraborate units are present. [TeO4] trigonal bipyramids are converted into [TeO3] trigonal pyramids. The observed changes in spin Hamiltonian parameters with increasing concentration of B2O3 can be attribute to the decrease in the field strength at the Cu2+ ion site. The bonding parameters calculated from both optical and ESR data change with B2O3 concentration.
