The landscape of environmental legislation in the US is complex and continues to evolve. State and Federal regulations as well as air permits mandate increasingly more stringent emission requirements for various air pollutants for both new and existing facilities for a number of acid gas species, as well as Hg and particulate matter. As a result of the need to comply with these stringent emission limits, there is a growing desire for a low cost/easy-to-install solution. DSI technology can offer that as it is a low capital cost solution with a relatively small equipment footprint, lower power consumption and easy to retrofit to the majority of existing facilities. As DSI technology has matured, the systems have become more reliable and advancements in calcium-based sorbents have provided new properties of Lhoist's Generation 2 and 3 Enhanced Hydrated Lime products have demonstrated upwards of 90% SO2 and 95%+ HCl/HF reduction with DSI technology over a range of applications. This paper presents data from DSI demonstration testing performed for SO2 and HCl control at a variety of applications using Lhoist's enhanced hydrated lime products.
