Electronic Polarisability And Related Properties Of The Oxide Ion

Variations in electronegativity and negative charge of the oxide species, optical basicity and onset of optical absorption in oxide glass systems are interpreted in terms of oxide polarisability. The results are discussed also in relation to glasses containing fluoride and to the non-metal/metal transition in oxide glass systems.
