Electric Melting For High Glass Quality

It is generally accepted that a well designed cold top electric melter is the best choice for the production of high quality glasses, particularly those containing a high percentage of volatile elements. Many design factors influence the performance of an all-electric melter, perhaps the most critical being the design of the electrode heating system, which affects not only glass quality and energy consumption but also turndown capability and furnace campaign life. Designing large furnace of around 100 tonnes and over requires specific study - simple extrapolation of designs proven for small to medium size furnaces meets with little success.
