Dynamic Gas/Oxy Superstructure Refractory Testing

Fuel/oxy technology has gained wide acceptance during the past ten years. The benefits of fuel/oxygen combustion have been many. The conversion to fuel/oxygen combustion has not been without problems. In some cases refractory superstructures have required more maintenance than in the past. In addition, some superstructures have required repair prematurely. The key to minimizing problems with refractory superstructures is a thorough testing plan needed to simulate conditions in the furnace to be designed. A dynamic gas/oxy superstructure laboratory furnace has been developed to address fuel/oxy superstructure issues. This paper describes the furnace design and operations.
