Dynamic And Static Fatigue Of Silicate Glasses Under Biaxial Loading: Application To Space Windows, Crts And Telescope Mirrors

The processing and handling of large glass structures often subject them to biaxial loading in fatigue environment for finite intervals of time. To ensure their mechanical reliability during manufacturing and after installation, these structures may require proof testing in inert environments or their parent glasses may require dynamic and static fatigue testing in humid environments. Three different glass structures were evaluated using the latter approach. The allowable long-term stress value for each of these structures for fatigue-free operation in service will be estimated in this paper.
