The Difference Of Properties Of Silica Glasses Made By Different Methods

The differences of the properties of silica glass made via different preparation routes are not yet understood. The optical properties depend directly on the impurity level and additional absorption bands can be correlated with impurities or defects. In contrast, thermal properties like viscosity, being very important for the maximum application temperature, cannot be understood in terms of impurity levels. In this paper, several methods for the characterisation of silica glass according to its properties have been applied.
