Development And Industrial Testing Of A New In-Line Redox Sensor

For controlling the oxidation state of the glass melt in industrial furnaces, an in-line redox sensor near the batch charging area of in the forehearth is most useful. By continuously measuring the oxidation state of freshly melted glass batch and, in a later stage of the homogenised glass melt, redox disturbances caused by e.g. contaminated recycled cullet, can be observed in an early stage. Corrective process measures can be taken instantly, decreasing the amount of rejected glass products. Another use of the in-line redox sensor is the monitoring and control of glass colour and glass colour changes.
