A saturation-outgassing method, which was previously used for solubility measurements of noble gases in glass, has been improved to determine the solubility of nitrogen in a hard borosilicate glass melt. The solubility of nitrogen shows the same temperature dependence as other physically dissolved gases like He, Ne & Ar. The solubility increases slightly with increasing temperature within the temperature range 1473-1853 K. The thermodynamic values for the temperature dependence of Henry's coefficient [mol/(mol bar)] of nitrogen are Ho=35.8+3.8Kj/mol & So =-95.8+2.4J/mol K. The nitrogen solubility fits into the dependency of solubility of inert gases on their atomic/molecular size, i.e. the solubility decreases with the increasing atomic/molecular size in order He>Ne>Ar>N2>Kr.
