Defects In Non-Oxide Glasses

In this paper, the phase separation phenomena, the structures and crystalline phases of crystallite particles in chalcogenide and fluoride glass systems have been studied using a combination of analytical techniques, optical microscope, SEM, TEM, EDS, WDS, x-ray diffraction, as well as Raman micro-probe. More emphasis has been laid on the defects in glass fibers. The scattering loss in bulk glass and attenuation loss in fibers were measured and the relationship between scattering loss and defects in glasses was discussed.
