Corrosion Of 20M20.80B203 (M=Li, Na And K) Glasses In Water

The corrosion of densified and undensified 20M20.80B203 (M=Li, Na and K) glasses in water was investigated. The corrosion rate decreased after densification and increased with an increase of alkali size. The results were explained by assuming a reaction mechanism of borate network. Due to the decrease of void volume the migration of water to the reaction sites is depressed. There seems to be a high reactivity at some deformed bonds in densified glasses.
