Cordierite Glass-Ceramics: Wet Chemistry Versus Melted Glass Powder

Wet chemistry derived amorphous cordierite powders are expensive, possess hugh surface area, intraparticle nanoporosity, are hygroscopic and their organic part is difficult to eliminate. The glass frit powders are based on dense, variable morphology particles. Wet chemistry powders are more sinterable than glass frits but exhibit large shrinkages, of 25-30% which cause warpage and cracking.
