Contributions To Silicate Microanalysis. Part 7. A Separation Scheme For The Full Analysis Of Very Small Samples Of Alkali-Lime Glass

After decomposition with HF-HCIO4 in a distillation apparatus, the SiO2 was determined in the distillate. non-volatile components such as P2O5, Fe2O3,MnO,Al2O3,MgO,CaO,Na2O,K2O were separated by an extraction process and then determined by spectrophotometry, flame photometry, or complexometric titration. The scheme is suitable for analysis of glasses or other silicates decomposed by HF when less than 20mg is available. The method was tested by analysis of a standard glass.
