Comparative Investigations On The Polishing Performance Of Various Polishers

The relationship was studied between the polishing efficiency of optical glass and the technological polishing parameters using a statistical method of planning tests. Progress of polishing was assessed by means of glass weight loss and by the amount of light scattered from the surface. It is shown that there is a special optimum polishing time as well as polishing pressure for each of the polishers. This is valid for the three different types of polishers used in this work: polyurethane, cerium oxide abrasive pellet and pitch.
