Environmentally, all inorganic colouring added to the bottle after forming will require substantially more energy: 1.5-2h up to 600 deg C, compared to 6-10 minutes at 200 C with organic. Although minimal solvents are currently used in organic coatings, there are steps being taken to reduce this to zero and reduce the curing time and temperature to ambient using ultra violet radiation to seconds. This is not far from being reality. A thinner film requires less energy to produce, with organic coatings being applied 6-10 times less than sleeving and liquid coating being applied 3-4 times less than powder coating. Organics will not use precious minerals. Financially, the maximisation of flexibility of the colour coating process and the minimisation of energy consumption with efficient us of materials favours liquid organic electrostatic disc spray coating.
